During this term’s Science lessons KS3 have been looking at Liquid, Solids and gases. This term’s topic has been invaluable to group’s learning of density, mass and volume. The students have enjoyed the changing states during some hands on experiments looking at ice, how it can change from a solid melting into a liquid and boiling into a gas. The student’s this week will be making boats by hand selecting their equipment using assorted materials and testing out the density. Everyone is looking forward to the project.
Last week we made a Lava lamp using oils/colouring/ citric acid and sodium bicarbonate (baking powder) and water. The findings were that the oil had less density in the water and some of the formations were changeable with the amounts of each liquid applied. Here are some findings of the experiment.
