Employer Spotlight: PK Education
Trinity Solutions Academy’s Pathways to Work programme aims to enhance students’ knowledge and experience of employment in their chosen sector. Integral to this are the networking opportunities with esteemed organisations around Newcastle and Gateshead, where students can ask questions, challenge their assumptions and dare to be ambitious.
Earlier this year, Rebecca Miller and Sarah Elliott from PK Education delivered an employability seminar with our Business Administration students. The students are working towards Level 1 BTEC qualifications, in which they must demonstrate knowledge of job opportunities within the industry.
Rebecca is a Candidate Relationship Manager at the busy Education Recruitment branch, so took the time to explain the facets of her role. Rebecca sources candidates from various mediums, where she coordinates pre-vetting, requests references, and performs mandatory checks (DBS, List 99 Etc , NCTL , Prohibition Check). When she meets candidates, she welcomes them, takes copies of all required documentation and does crosschecking. Once the candidate has been in for an interview Rebecca clears the pack to DFE / REC standards, re-clears existing candidates, takes telephone enquiries from schools and candidates, and provides the rest of the team with her insight into the candidates.
Sarah also discussed the skills that employers look for in administration employees:
Sarah commented, “We fielded great questions from the students and talked about all of the skills they have currently, which are transferable. We also discussed the type of opportunities we have within our organisation. The group were positive and engaged throughout the session. They were a fantastic group and all of them showed that they have the potential to be placed”.
Sarah and Rebecca invited the students to visit PK Education after the half term to see the role in action. Students will gain first-hand experience of a busy office, discover the range of tasks that make up an administration role, and ask questions to employees who have pursued careers within this field.
